Iain Scott, PhD

Associate Professor of Medicine, Division of Cardiology
Co-Director, Postdoctoral Training Program in Vascular Medicine

Bio

Dr. Iain Scott received his PhD in 2006 from the University of St. Andrews (UK), for research on the machinery regulating mitochondrial morphology and dynamics. He then moved to the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda MD, where he worked on apoptosis, mitochondrial metabolism, and lysine acetylation. Dr. Scott joined the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology in August 2014, and was promoted to Associate Professor of Medicine with Tenure in June 2020.

Research Interests

The Scott laboratory aims to better understand the role played by mitochondrial dysfunction in the development of metabolic diseases. Using in vivo and ex vivo models, we examine how changes in mitochondrial energy metabolism promote the development of organ dysfunction in diabetes, ischemia, and heart failure.

Keywords
