Iain Scott, PhD

Sruti Shiva, PhD

The Department of Medicine will increase infrastructure and support for its PostDoctoral fellows. We are pleased to announce that Dr. Iain Scott, PhD, and Dr. Sruti Shiva, PhD, will direct and oversee a new PostDoctoral Training Program (PDTP) that builds and amplifies on many of our existing career development programs. Iain Scott obtained his PhD from the University of St. Andrews in the UK and is currently Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology. Iain’s work focuses on the intrinsic mechanisms that regulate mitochondrial protein acetylation and how this fundamental alteration affects organelle function at the cellular and tissue level in cardiovascular diseases. Sruti Shiva obtained her PhD from at the University of Alabama in Birmingham and is currently Professor of Pharmacology & Chemical Biology. Her work focuses on understanding the mechanisms, by which mitochondrial function is regulated, particularly by reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, and how these are altered in cardiovascular health and disease. Both Iain and Sruti are Principal Investigators in the Vascular Medicine Institute (VMI).
