The PA Mitochondrial Medicine Meeting

November 6-7, 2023

Pittsburgh, PA

Pennsylvania has been a leader in research on mitochondrial metabolism and the effects of its dysregulation in genetic disease, cancer, and neurologic disorders for many years. TRiMAD brings the opportunity to see cutting edge mitochondrial science in our backyard and is a must-attend event!

Dr. Jerry Vockley

TRiMAD, or the meeting of Translational Research in Mitochondria, Metabolism, Aging and Disease was started ten years ago by The University of Pittsburgh, the University of Pennsylvania and Penn State University as a way for mitochondrial researchers across Pennsylvania to interact. This regional meeting is inspired by Gordon Conferences as a place to share early stage developments, get feedback on research findings, and find collaborators involved in mitochondrial research. In the last decade, the number of participants, institutions, and the topic base has greatly expanded such that TRiMAD is the premier regional meeting in the area encompassing Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and New York.

We are pleased for TRiMAD to return to Pittsburgh November 6-7th, 2023.

Highlights from the 2023 Agenda

GREATER REGIONAL OUTREACH – TRiMAD-X will be the first post-pandemic TRiMAD meeting. Researchers throughout our region have expressed that the lack of in-person meetings in mitochondrial research has been a major detriment to collaborative projects and the training of mentees. Pre-meeting polls suggest that this meeting will draw at least 150 participants from at least four states and over 10 different academic institutions. In person benefits our research and builds trust and friendships across our institutions.
CUTTING-EDGE RESEARCH – This year’s meeting will feature a keynote session along with six others composed of approximately 30 invited speakers who are experts in their respective fields. This multi-disciplinary program offers perspectives of mitochondrial research from many different angles and straddles the whole spectrum from mechanistic basic bench research to clinical studies. Additional speakers will be chosen from submitted abstracts for oral presentation to incorporate late-breaking data and a greater number of junior investigators.
TRAINING & NETWORKING – The program includes ample time for scientific networking to bolster collaborative science among attendees. Further, an evening poster session enables not only the presentation of unpublished work but also the interaction between senior scientists and trainees. A “poster pitch” session during the main program is a unique feature of the meeting that provides trainees with an opportunity to gain experience in “pitching” their scientific work. Overall, the meeting will provide a strong venue to meet the needs of junior and senior scientists alike
